Be Still.

I want you to take a moment and place your hand over your heart. You feel that? It’s your heartbeat. You’re alive, with a purpose only you can fulfill. You have passions and dreams that God has given you and you want to make a difference in your world.

So get your dream journal out because today we are going to be focusing on these two things: purpose and distractions.

Be Still || It's time to unplug, be still, and to listen to what God is speaking into your heart. || That Christian Girl. Inspiring young women to follow their God-given passion and dreams in their lives. What is your purpose?  This for me has always been a tiring question. Depending on when you would ask me, the answers varied but eventually evolved into a ‘theme.’ What I mean by this is that though I never knew exactly what it was that I wanted to do, there were some very common phrases that kept popping up. Things like… helping others, inspiring people, being an encourager, someone people can go to, serving, leading… the list goes on.

So I want you to take some time and really think about this. Think about the things you are involved in right now… in ministry at your church, volunteer work, your job or current business. What is it that you love about these things? Are they bringing you fulfillment? Is it pushing you toward your ultimate purpose in life? Write these questions down and really ponder them over the next week.

What are the distractions? We live in such an interconnected world. Our real lives and social networking lives are interlinked in a web of mass chaos. We have friends in real life, and online… some are even both! We’re a part of networks and groups and email lists and group chats… We’re constantly on our phones, iPads, tablets, and computers trying to stay ‘connected’ with everything and everyone on Facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. The sad fact is that we’re disconnecting ourselves from the things that matter… family, relationships, relationships with ourselves (yes, this matters), and our relationship with God.

This week, I want to challenge you (myself, too). I want us to be still. I want us to lose the distractions and focus on the things that will drive us closer to our purpose. Whether you’re purpose is to be a stay at home mom, a photographer, a Sunday School teacher… whatever it is, unplug and focus on that. We need to learn to focus inward and upward.

It’s so important to look inward. Sometimes we focus on everything around us that we forget to reflect internally and give ourselves the attention we need. It’s time to get back to loving yourself. Light some candles and take a nice, relaxing bath. Go for a nature walk. Do some yoga or journaling. Buy yourself that cute outfit. Treat yourself to a delicious dessert. You deserve it!

Most importantly, don’t forget to spend quality time with yourself and God. I know it’s hard and things in life pull us in every direction. But a life without time spent with God is a life without meaning. It’s important to take some time out each day to be with our savior. He gave you these wonderful passions and dreams, it’s only fair we thank Him for these blessings and passions. It’s so important to talk with Him and read His word. He’s the one who will guide you every step of the way.

So be still and listen.

love always,

Kristina.
