Inspiring young women to follow their God-given passions & dreams. You have purpose. Now is the time to walk in it!
Today’s post is going to be short and sweet. We’re going to be talking about staying focused. And I will be giving you 7 keys that will help you to stay focused.
When it comes to following the dreams and plans God has given us, it can be hard to get off track and lose sight of what’s important.
So here are 7 key tips to help you stay focused when it comes to the task at hand:
Set time aside. I know this seems like a no-brainer but seriously, set time aside to do what needs to get things done. If it takes you 30 mins to write an outline for your blog post, schedule those 30 mins into your day.
Prioritize. It’s important to get those important tasks done first instead of waiting until the last minute. You’ll have time for the “little things” later.
Break it up.Some tasks take longer than others. A book, for example, can never be written, edited, and published in the same day. It’s important to break up each task into smaller, achievable tasks. And it will save you a huge headache and stress in the long run.
Get rid of distractions. Your iPad, cell phone, your web browser — I know you’ve got Facebook up. Close that baby out. You’ll be so much more productive when you don’t have all these distractions in your way.
Music. It can be motivating or a total distraction. For some things (like writing a blog post) I really need to focus on I find it best to play music that is soft or just instrumental. Other things (like editing pictures), I need upbeat music. Find what’s best for you and do that. Working in complete silence works for some, but definitely not me.
Clear your head. For some this could be meditating for 10 minutes. For others, it’s going for a jog. Just do what you need to do to clear your head of negative thoughts and feelings. Let your emotions out. Let go of what’s bothering you. Set it down. If you really need to, you can pick it back up after you’re done doing your important tasks.
Take mental breaks. This is kind of like my last point but this is WHILE you’re in the middle of doing your task. Sometimes we can go at a project for hours and literally get no where. Take a break. Go for a walk. Get creative. Read a book. But make sure you get back to finish your project, though. Otherwise, it’s just procrastination.
You were created with a purpose. Whatever it is, I want you to know that you can do it. God gives us each a passion and desire to do something great and to change the world around us. Sometimes we just need to step back and focus on what really matters.
I want to hear from YOU. What are some tips and tricks you’ve used to help you stay focused? Do you already do some of these things? Leave your response in the comments below!
