Set Apart Femininity by Leslie Ludy is like no other book I’ve read for girls who want to be the young woman who God intended them to be. This book calls young women to a “counterculture lifestyle” and challenges every area of your life.
At first, I was a little reluctant to buy the book until I read the back cover. I thought, “Ok. This will just tell us how to be good girls, stay modest, and call us to be pure.” Though Ludy does talk about these things, she goes much deeper than I could have ever imagined. Illustrating her points with real life stories of amazing woman who took a stand to be set apart, Leslie conveys the ways in which our modern young women should live to be set apart.
I laughed. I cried. I truly felt like I was having this deep one-on-one conversation with my best friend. This is not your normal girls book. This book is not only thought provoking, but convicting as well. It has forever changed my outlook on everyday things that I allow in my life, that I really didn’t see before.
While reading this book, be prayerful about it. If something Leslie says tugs at your heart, it may be God calling you to change a certain area in your life. If you take what she says with an open mind and an open heart to receive what God is speaking to you, I can assure you that you will be forever changed. I know I have.
Some quotes that I loved:
“We cannot expect an intimate, passionate daily relationship with Christ if we are not willing to seek Him with ALL our hearts, souls, minds, and strength. When we are preoccupied with pop culture and the pursuit of our own selfish pleasures, we cannot truly know Him or hear His voice. But when we, like Mary of Bethany, are willing to pour out everything we hold dear upon the precious head of our beloved without reserve, we will experience firsthand that “in [His] presence is fullness of joy and at [His] right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11)”
“The goal in any Christ-centered relationship should be to continually point the other person to Christ, not continually draw attention toward you. In my friendship with Eric, my dad made an important observation. ‘The reason I know that your friendship with my daughter is from God,’ he told Eric, ‘is because ever since you have been in her life, she has grown closer to Him.'”
“I once heard a Godly man say that modern Christianity has accepted a counterfeit version of joy and peace by looking to Hollywood and professional sports. We look to movies and television and football games to bring us the pleasure and delight that our King desires to give. And by leaning on worldly entertainment for rest and refreshment, we find only a temporary fix; not lasting happiness or true fulfillment.”
